Process Technician -- Injection Molding Battle Creek Contract-to-Hire Technical 10/13/14

Under the direction of the Molding Supervisor, the primary role of the Tech is to support the production team to ensure that molded components can be manufactured safely without interruptions while meeting the company targets. 

  • Maintains, modifies, and changes injection machine molds, robotic tooling, injection mold machine programs, and robotic programs with mold with a limited amount of machine downtime.
  • Understands three and six-axis robotic programming such that positions can be modified as required.
  • Use mechanical and electronic testing instruments as required.
  • Uses hand and power tools as required.
  • Uses overhead crane as required.
  • Moves material and molds to and from the area by operating hand trucks, forklifts, etc.
  • Performs material changes as required through purging of injection mold machines, and material changes.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and solving any production related problems (e.g. machine breakdowns, scheduling problems, etc) and the continuous improvement process.
  • Operation and changeover requirements for online dryers.
  • Perform secondary duties as assigned.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Individuals filling the manufacturing associate position are responsible for performing a variety of manual tasks to add value to the worth of plastic injection molded parts and components in the Assembly and Molding Departments.

8.        Meets or exceeds customer expectation by following quality guidelines provided by the Team Leader for specific jobs. (However, supervisors are the only individuals authorized to make changes in packaging, trimming, grinding and cycle.)

9.        Attends required meetings prior to shift.  Remains at work station until relieved for break or if an endangering situation arises.

10.        Meets with preceding shifts associates to discuss cycle time and quality issues.  Reviews the flow chart and the quality scopes.

11.        Performs all aspects of the job by efficiently operating auxiliary equipment such as  welders, hot stampers, pad printers, drill presses etc.  Ensures on time delivery and quality parts by maintaining specified rates as required with customer satisfaction in mind.

12.        Guarantees repeat customer orders by packing parts for shipment according to job specifications.  Accurately completes all paperwork with correct part counts and part numbers.

13.        Ensures quick problem solving by communicating immediately with Team Leader, Process Technicians, and/or the Supervisor regarding any problems.  Including any scrap issues over 3% or 3 to 5 parts in a row.

14.        Follows and complies with safety procedures and requirements.

15.        Keeps work area clean.  Utilizes any available time to maintain cleanliness.  Entirely cleans immediate work area at the end of the shift.

16.        Attends shift meetings and team meetings.  Participates in classroom training sessions designed for Manufacturing Associates.

17.        May be transferred to other departments or shifts based on production requirements.

18.        Ability to run all production jobs.

Setup & Preventative Responsibilities

  • Start-up and shutdown of molding and assembly equipment in accordance with procedures.
  • Changes molds and assembly equipment in accordance with the production schedule (KANBAN System).
  • Changes molds/assembly equipment to provide consistent part quality protecting company assets.
  • Documents all molding/assembly setup and supports recording of downtime.
  • Prepares molds and/or fixtures for storage at the completion of a production run.
  • Coordinates and/or performs minor maintenance of equipment while in production.
  • Completes weekly preventative maintenance assignments on molding and assembly equipment.
  • Performs layered audits on molding/assembly equipment.
  • Applies knowledge of molding and assembly equipment to support production requirements.
  • Verifies process parameters are correct for molding and assembly equipment.
  • Completes job responsibilities in compliance with industry safety standards.
  • Must perform mold, tooling and secondary equipment changeovers when required.

 

Communication Skills

  • Notifies Manufacturing Supervisor and/or Maintenance of downtime issues.
  • Tags tools/fixtures according to the tool repair and maintenance work order procedure.
  • Keeps the Manufacturing Supervisor advised of recurring problems existing in the production area which adversely affect productivity.
  • Communicates problems and issues during shift and at shift changes to the other cell technicians.
  • Communicate with Engineering with regards to processparameter deviationsand product development.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Develops working relationships among peers and fosters teamwork through those relationships.

Systematic Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:

  • Troubleshoots process-related concerns while adhering to setup documentationto maintain consistent quality and production requirements.
  • Identify product or process defects in molding and assembly.
  • Must have the ability to conduct root cause analysis and present alternative solutions and make repairs and/or adjustments to correct problems.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate processes and identify potential problems and work on prevention.
  • Assist in the reduction of downtime.
  • Continuous learning of new skills is required and must be proactive in doing so.

 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

o Cut and Install insulation as specified in BOM
o Assemble sheet metal cabinet
• Safely operate forklift and/or other lift equipment

o Check dimensions of the unit against the prints, i.e. height and width, inlet and outlet, feet, etc.
